Literary Honor Against Convention and Consumption

Since 1999, the Hermann Lenz Award has been awarded in memory of the author Hermann Lenz at the place where he created his works. This award is the continuation of the
Petrarca Award, sponsored by Hubert Burda from 1975 – 1995. Hermann Lenz received this award in 1987, and he remained a protagonist of the award for many years. In addition, the Hubert Burda Prize for Contemporary Poetry recognizes voices in poetry in East Europe that have not had a large audience previously, voices that mirror the new life dawning in these countries. The award winners receive a grant of 10,000 euros, and their works are translated and published. In addition, during the award ceremony the Hermann Lenz Grant, which was started by Hermann and Hanne Lenz, is awarded to young German authors and literary scholars.
